All my plants are boys
Avril Stormy Unger
"All my plants are boys, this happened because of my partner. They would say- these tall fellows, this fluffy boy, the curly boy, the pink dude. Mum asked me to think about why I refer to my plants as 'he'. She refers to my partner as 'she' and my plants as 'it'. I want her to think about why. "
In a mixed media collage, Avril explores a seemingly complicated and much debated topic -"pronouns". Language can be a powerful tool for inclusivity and acceptance. If our society can't find space for people's preferred pronouns, how will we ever find space for queers themselves? One could start small in a long journey of undoing the gender bias. But, does one want to?
