Felix Mathias Ott came to Bangalore for a month-long residency in December 2015. He spent time with Sandbox and other artists in Bangalore and Pondicherry as part of his research project. He worked briefly and presented a short performance. This residency was the first step to a collaboration with Sandbox Collective that resulted in the production of a new performance RAMANAYA, which premiered in Bangalore in February 2018.

Laura Klatt was artist-in-resident with Sandbox in 2016 and explored ideas that integrated performance with food. A theatre practitioner from Berlin, she developed a character called Cyclewali Aloorani who rode on an old bicycle selling authentic German potato salad on the streets of Bengaluru in exchange for stories and conversation.

Eduardo, a Portuguese architect and artist based in Berlin collaborated with Sandbox Collective to realise the Portable Museum. The concepts involved aimed at breaking down boundaries between the artist and the spectator, the exhibition space or stage and our everyday environment. The Portable Museum was conceived as an exhibition space that opens itself to the streets of Bangalore, curated by the inhabitants of the city. The Project was showcased as a Museum of Memories in 2017.
Jazeela, a student of spatial and exhibition design from NID collaborated with Sandbox Collective on a project titled 30213. The interactive performance installation was inspired by Mathilukal, an acclaimed Malayalam novel by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer. The installation explored society’s obsession with wealth and success; our constant search for the meaning of love, life and death.
Sandbox Collective played the role of coach and mentors to Chris Leuenberger, a dancer, choreographer, and performer and theatre director, performer, and dramaturg Marcel Schwald, who devised a performance that focused on effemininity through the language of dance and documentary theater. The first part of their project took place during their residency in early 2017.
The duo returned later that year to create a piece EF_FEMININITY after having found collaborators.
The project premiered in Switzerland to great acclaim in 2018.

During their stay in Bangalore Magdalena and Yana researched for an upcoming work of The Agency. They were interested in surrogacy as a phenomenon that on the one hand enables queer family planning and on the other hand reenforces global hierarchies. They were interested in the history as well as the current situation of commercial surrogacy in India, whose little regulated legal situation made the country one of the leading providers of all kinds of fertility services for an international market from 2002 to 2015. They also examined the Western view of India with regard to spiritual tourism, which has always shaped the relationship between Germany and India.

Puppeteer and Theatre director Anurupa Roy and Puppeteer Md. Shameem were artists in residence at Sandbox in 2019, during which time they conceived and created a new performance for children focussing on the need to protect our environment titled 1…2.. Tree. The play performed over 25 shows across various venues in Bangalore and Delhi.
Video artist and ace cameraman Ben Brix was in residence with us in 2018. He was also the video artist on the production of Ramanaya earlier in ‘18. Ben collaborated with sound artist Nikhil Nagaraj to create a film on the source of produce and how it travels to its final destination. His film is an abstract ode to the silk farms outside Bangalore, the independent fisherman in Mangalore and the flower growers in the suburbs of Bangalore who ply us with fresh produce that is constantly consumed by the ever growing city of Bangalore.
